What to do when students are struggling in school:
-Determine how many hours the student is working at home
- Check with the teachers to see if your child is seeing them during PRIDE and/or after school for help
- Is there a quiet and comfortable, well lit area free of distractions in which they are working?
- Does the student have all of the school supplies needed?
- Does the student have a system for tracking test, quiz and assignment deadlines? This could be a calendar, planner or any form of on-line tool
In addition, some students are not using study strategies that coincide with their unique learning style. Students should log into their Career Cruising account and click assessments. They can take a learning style test and receive results on the best way to study. They might learn a strategy that they wouldn't otherwise have thought of. This is a quick way to get some helpful tips.
TUTORING is free. Check the counselors google classroom for links.
There is also free tutoring at many of the Capital Area Library locations some certain days. Contact your local library for details. Students can access on-line assistance with school work, projects and ACT/SAT study links through Capitol Area District Libraries (cadl.org). Students would need a library card. Once the student establishes a personal account (like Khan Academy) in order to use Britannica School and/or Learning Express
Counselors can provide tutors for hire but recommend using free resources first.
